How many porta potties does a Washington construction site need?
A Washington construction site needs 1 toilet for 1 to 10 workers, 2 for 11 to 25, 3 for 26 to 40, 4 for 41 to 60 and 5 for 61 to 80, then 1 more per 20 workers. The toilets must sit within 200 feet of the crew under WAC 296-155-140, effective July 1, 2025.
| Workers on site | Toilets required (WAC 296-155-140) | Our usual setup |
|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | 1 | 1 standard |
| 11–25 | 2 | 2 standard + 1 hand wash station |
| 26–40 | 3 | 3 standard + 1 hand wash station |
| 41–60 | 4 | 4 standard + 2 hand wash stations |
| 61–80 | 5 | 5 standard + 2 hand wash stations |
| Over 80 | 5 + 1 per extra 20 workers | Site plan by phone |
The state rule is stricter than the federal OSHA table, which allows 1 toilet for up to 20 workers. Washington also requires tepid wash water (70–100°F), soap and towels. Read the full Washington job-site guide or the official rule text. Confirm site-specific questions with L&I.
What does weekly job-site service include?
Weekly job-site service includes pumping the waste tank, washing the seat, walls and floor, recharging the deodorizer, and restocking toilet paper and sanitizer. Washington's rule also says waste must not pass half the tank before service, so crews over 10 people per unit get a second weekly visit.
- Service day is fixed when you book, so the superintendent knows when to expect the truck.
- Need more visits during framing or a concrete pour? Extra visits are quoted per visit.
- Gate codes and lockbox notes stay on the route sheet for every visit.

How does 28-day job-site billing work?
Job-site porta potties bill every 28 days, not by calendar month. The first invoice includes delivery and pickup; later cycles bill the unit and weekly service only. The rental renews each cycle until you call or text for pickup, and billing stops on the pickup date.
Example: a remodel that runs 9 weeks (63 days) covers three 28-day cycles. Call for pickup on day 63 and the third cycle is the last.
Where should job-site toilets go on a Bellingham lot?
Put job-site toilets on level, firm ground within 200 feet of the work, beside a drivable edge the service truck can reach every week. On Bellingham's hillside lots and wet clay soils, a gravel pad by the driveway works better than the low corner of the lot where water collects.
- Stake or strap units on open lots; northeast winter winds can tip them.
- Keep units out of the street unless you hold a Temporary Right-of-Way Use Permit.
- Multistory buildings need facilities on every third floor under the state rule.

After choosing construction sites as the job type, most renters need three more answers before booking: which unit fits, how many units the head count needs, and what the itemized quote will include. The planning pages below cover each one for Bellingham and the surrounding counties.
Construction sites rental questions
Can you deliver a job-site porta potty today?
Same-day delivery runs Monday through Saturday when you call by noon and a truck has room. Have the address, gate code and placement spot ready.
Can I get a unit with a sink for my crew?
A deluxe unit has a sink inside, but a hand washing station serves more people at once. The state rule calls for tepid water, so ask about heated sink options in winter.
Can we set up a business account?
Contractors can keep cards on file and get one invoice per cycle for every site. Ask when you call.
Can you move the unit as the job progresses?
Units can be moved to a new spot on the same site during a service visit. Tell dispatch a day ahead.
Do you rent to homeowners doing their own remodel?
Homeowners rent the same units. See the home remodel and septic page.
What about a unit for women on the crew?
Washington requires separate facilities for each sex once 20 or more workers of both sexes are on site, plus menstrual products at no cost. Ask for a separately marked unit.
