How many porta potties does a festival need?
A festival needs about 1 standard porta potty per 40 guests for a 5-to-8-hour day, plus 1 for every 3 units where alcohol is sold. A 2,000-person, 6-hour festival with a beer garden needs 50 units, then 17 more for alcohol: 67 total, with at least 4 ADA units (5%).
For crowds over 2,000, call for a site plan. Peak-hour traffic, the number of gates and the food layout change the count more than the total ticket number.
How should festival units be clustered?
Festival units work best in clusters of 6 to 12 near entrances, food courts and stages, each with at least 1 ADA wheelchair-accessible unit and hand washing stations at the end. Clusters need a firm service lane so the pump truck can reach them during the event without crossing the crowd.
- Space clusters so no guest walks more than about 3 minutes to reach one.
- Put the ADA unit at the end of the row on a firm, level route.
- Light clusters for events that run after dark.

What permits do festivals in Bellingham need?
Bellingham festivals that use public streets or parks need a city special event permit, with documents due about two months ahead, and park events also need a Parks special request. Whatcom County Health may review food and sanitation for temporary events. Sanitation counts go in your site plan.

After choosing festivals and large crowds as the job type, most renters need three more answers before booking: which unit fits, how many units the head count needs, and what the itemized quote will include. The planning pages below cover each one for Bellingham and the surrounding counties.
Festivals and large crowds rental questions
Can you service the units during a two-day event?
Overnight or early-morning service visits pump, clean and restock every unit before gates reopen.
Do you provide hand sanitizer stations?
Every standard unit has a sanitizer dispenser. Add two-sink hand washing stations at food courts.
Can we get separate units for vendors and staff?
A separate backstage or vendor cluster can be marked and locked for staff use.
How early should a festival book?
Book 4 to 8 weeks ahead for summer festivals; Memorial Day, Fourth of July and August fair weekends fill first.
Do you offer race and fun-run setups?
Race starts need many units for a short peak. Start lines usually get 1 unit per 75–100 runners plus units at the finish.
