What permits do Snohomish County events need for portable toilets?
Snohomish County event organizers with food booths must provide approved toilets with hand washing stations next to them. The Snohomish County Health Department asks coordinators to file a Coordinator Checklist at least 30 days before the event. Parades, runs and assemblies on county roads also need a Type A right-of-way permit from Public Works.
The Health Department guide says approved portable toilets must be serviced by an approved wastewater company. Hand washing stations must sit next to them. Plan both at the same time, not as an afterthought.
- Food events: send the Coordinator Checklist at least 30 days ahead to food.safety@snoco.org.
- County roads: Type A permits cover carnivals, parades, dances, public assemblies and runs.
- Road or lane closures: Type B5 traffic control permits go through the PDS Permit Portal.
- Inside a city: the city's own event and right-of-way permits apply instead.
Use our porta potty calculator and add hand washing stations for any food booth area.
How does river flooding affect porta potty placement in Snohomish County?
Snohomish County floods most often from November through February, on the Snohomish, Stillaguamish, Skykomish and Snoqualmie rivers. Farms, barns and jobsites on the valley floor can lose road access fast. Set units on high, firm ground and plan a pickup if the county moves to a Phase 2 flood watch.
The county tracks river gauges at Snohomish, near Monroe and on the Stillaguamish forks. At Phase 2, minor flooding and some road closures can start. At Phase 3, many roads close and levees can overtop.
- Place units on gravel or pavement, not on low pasture.
- Keep a truck path that does not cross a flooded field road.
- Strap units on exposed river flats when wind is forecast.
- Text us if your site road closes, so we can move service to the next open day.
Farm crews and winter construction sites on the valley floor should watch the county flood page.

When does Snohomish County inventory get tight?
Snohomish County demand peaks from June through early September. The Marysville Strawberry Festival runs in mid-June, Lake Stevens Aquafest in July, and the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe from late August into September. Book event units two to three weeks ahead for those weekends, especially ADA wheelchair-accessible units and trailers.
The 2026 Evergreen State Fair ran 11 days, from August 27 to September 7. Many units across the county are committed during that stretch. Late-summer weddings and reunions compete for the same stock.
- June: graduations and the Strawberry Festival in Marysville.
- July: Aquafest in Lake Stevens and Kla Ha Ya Days in Snohomish.
- August: the Arlington Fly-In and the Stanwood Camano Fair.
- Late August to September: the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe.
See our event rental and restroom trailer pages to plan the mix.
How fast can a porta potty reach different parts of Snohomish County?
Snohomish County is in our zone 2. North county towns like Stanwood and Arlington are under an hour from Bellingham. Everett is about 1 hour 10 minutes, and Edmonds about 1 hour 25 minutes. Same-day delivery works on most days when you call by 10 a.m.; otherwise it is next day.
All routes run down I-5, so I-5 traffic in Everett and Lynnwood sets the pace for south county stops. Early calls get the earliest trucks.
- North county (Stanwood, Arlington, Marysville): about 50 minutes to 1 hour.
- Central (Everett, Lake Stevens, Snohomish, Mukilteo): about 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 15 minutes.
- South county (Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Edmonds): about 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 25 minutes.
- East county (Granite Falls, Monroe, Sultan): plan for next day.

Snohomish County porta potty questions
Do I need a county permit for a porta potty on my rural Snohomish County property?
A unit on your own land, off the road shoulder, usually needs no county right-of-way permit. Any use that interferes with a county road needs some type of county permit or agreement. Keep the unit and the truck off the shoulder to avoid that step.
Our fair booth area has food vendors. How many hand wash stations do we need?
The Snohomish County Health Department requires hand washing stations next to the toilets at temporary food events. Many organizers place one station per bank of toilets plus one near food booths. Call us with your vendor count and we will size it.
Can you service a farm unit in the Snohomish River valley in winter?
Weekly service continues all winter as long as our truck can reach the unit safely. When county flood phases close valley roads, we move service to the next open day. Placing the unit near a paved or gravel lane helps a lot.
How far ahead should I book for an event during the Evergreen State Fair?
Book two to three weeks ahead for any weekend from late August to early September. The fair in Monroe draws heavily on regional stock. ADA wheelchair-accessible units and restroom trailers go first.
Do you deliver to Granite Falls, Monroe and Darrington?
Those east county towns are served, but they sit farther off I-5. Plan on next-day delivery for most of them. Call early in the week for weekend events there.
